Nashville’s internal auditing office will investigate travel and overtime expenses related to Mayor Megan Barry’s affair with her former police bodyguard as part of the Metro Council’s special investigation into the use of taxpayer dollars.
After 12 minutes of discussion Tuesday, the Metro Nashville Audit Committee voted 6-0 to direct the city auditor to work in tandem with the new seven-member council committee that is investigating Barry’s affair.
The audit comes amid three state and local investigations into Barry, Sgt. Rob Forrest and the possible misuse of public funds during their affair. The work of the audit does not represent a new investigation, but is instead tied directly to the council committee’s efforts.
