WOODSTOCK – Nancy Gonsiorek has dropped out of the race for a McHenry County Board District 3 seat to apply for the county’s vacant auditor position.
The Crystal Lake Republican’s bid for the auditor job follows on the heels of the retirement of longtime McHenry County Auditor Pam Palmer.
Palmer, 60, cited her own health problems and a need to take care of her elderly parents.
Gonsiorek, who spent 30 years as a licensed Certified Public Accountant, said her goal is to eliminate the auditor’s office altogether through a voter referendum.
“I fully support the mission of the County Board to reduce costs and increase efficiency, and I believe there is a more efficient way to provide an independent internal audit function,” Gonsiorek said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the County Board and Chairman Jack Franks to reorganize, downsize and, if the voters approve, eliminate the office.”
